Exhibition: chestnut tower

Chestnut Tower is a solo exhibition by seal-carving artist Zhang Jingxin. Beginning with stories inscribed in stone, the exhibition brings together seal carving, stone engraving, and ink painting to explore the relationship between memory, personal experience, and time.

Drawing on the imagery of rivers, mountains, and storytelling in the artist’s work, Baicai Design translates the exhibition into a space for movement, observation, and reflection.

A continuous, undulating display band connects the artworks throughout the gallery. Suspended strands form translucent boundaries, reorganizing circulation and spatial layers while preserving the existing architectural structure. Stones and mirrored surfaces are placed across sections of the floor, where shifting light and reflections evoke the landscapes found in the works and reveal new perspectives as visitors move through the space.

Through restrained spatial interventions, the design leaves room for the artworks and their narratives. Stone, light, curtains, and moving images come together to create an environment between physical landscape and personal memory. As visitors move between the works, they encounter the artist’s stories while forming connections through their own experiences.
